I need some help with using Server 2003 as a router/dhcp server for my network.

I would like to be able to have my cable modem directly hooked up to my server on one network card and then a switch on the other network card and have the server assign IPs to computers hooked up to the switch and tell those computers my ISP’s DNS servers. I’ve looked at many guides to setting up DHCP on Server 2003 and I’ve done exactly what they say but what they don’t say is you still need the physical router, (Linksys WRT54GX4 in my case) for NAT, I then found another guide on setting up NAT, now that’s where I got lost so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also found somewhere that the second network card that has the switch hooked up to it needs to have a fixed IP? I also tried this and all I get is one of the client computers, (Windows XP) just has limited connectivity when I hook it up to the switch.

Everybody use pendrive and obviously face problem. I have faced so many virus using my pendrive. Source is my unsecured college lab and others who use internet at home and download virus unknowingly and spread all over through their pen drive. Commonly known USB virus are ‘Autorun.inf’ which makes files try launch itself. “Newfolder.exe” which is most cunning of all, it doesn’t get delete neither get detected by any antivirus software in including AVG, Avast, NOD32, Biddefender, PC cilin. But EZ or Etrust Or CA antivirus delete it clean. I guess how it identifies that virus in my comp. I scanned my pendrive in my college system which has Etrust but it didn’t identify. See to that your antivirus is upto date, else it is of no use. Well there is another tool to delete these two buggers. Download this tool SmartAV and run it to find USB virus and ‘autorun.inf’.  this tool has been designed specially for USB virus. Even you have firewall for USB and it tells you if any unauthorized access happens. You can search for such a tool in google. But i feel SmartAV works properly. I prefer SmartAV only as a second option because First option is ETrust antivirus. Disable autorun once for all.

Attention. My orkut and google account was hacked by somebody and somehow i managed to get my account back. This is what happened. I was online as usual. My friend was online in Gtalk and started messaging me and i too was chatting with him. He told that he has crested a new webpage for him and asked me to check it “www.orkut.*fin*te*.net”(censored, cos few ppl may try checking it now and get into trouble). I followed that link which redirected to Orkut login page. He asked me to login first and view the site then and i did the same but I couldn’t view the site which he said and i could view only my home page. Suddenly my Gtalk got disconnected saying password doesn’t match. Wtf does it mean? While I’m working in my gmail and automatically it get disconnected and saying password doesn’t match. Yes, my password has been changed by somebody. When I tried to recover my password and I send recovery mail to secondary email, I couldn’t receive recovery page in my secondary mail also. It’s Strange. I thought my friend would’ve been playing and I called him(the one who I was chatting with). Shocking, he said he is not online and I told him the situation and he replied that he too have the same problem. Who the hell I was chatting with then? Why he want to do it to us? Fortunately I tried logging in again and I got logged in. Soon I wanted to change my password before hacker hacks it again and I changed my password. I was about to change the security question also and I noticed my secondary mail was changed to ‘hack_orkut@yahoo.com’. I was beaten and didn’t know what to do. When I tried to change my secondary mail, it told account information has not been changed. It means I can’t recover password anymore if I lost and the hacker can easily change my password when ever he wants. Thank god, I could change my secondary mail too then but I’m not sure whether the password recovery page would come to that.  I could still see the guy who using my friends account to hack and was asking him why you are doing so, He/She/It replied ‘time pass‘. Wtf? When I entered Orkut, my caption was changed to “end of orkut soon” and unparliamentarily words were posted in some community in which I was a member and I was made joined in some other unwanted communities. By the time some of my friend started asking me ‘what made you to end orkut’ and I explained the situation to all. Now I think the situation is under control since I have recovered my password and changed the secondary mail too. But still I’m upset why this happened to me. I advice you all not to run any java scripts or unknown links and get into trouble like me. Who ever sends you be carefully before you access your mail which can be misused badly anytime, anywhere by anyone once when hacked. I thought of deleting orkut after this happened but I couldn’t do and that’s not because of hacker and but I would miss my friends contact.
I would also like to tell everyone that the scraps which comes to your scrapbook, which consists of ‘orkut tricks’, ’increase scrap, fans’, ’unlock albums’ ,etc. Just delete it and don’t have any intention in trying it. Hope my experience would be usefull to all and don’t happen to anybody. Beware of orkut , hackers , javascripts‘

With all the ways that malicious programs can get into and harm your computer,
antivirus software is an absolute necessity. Despite its name, good antivirus
software should guard against much more than viruses. I have experienced lot of
problems in my computer. I was really struggling without proper antivirus. Some
were working properly but i couldn’t update then it is of no use. others slow
down my computer. So decided to have no antivirus in my computer. There came a
boot time virus which didn’t allow me to boot. :banghead: I had to reinstall my
OS then. Since i had to backup some file i installed new OS in G drive where i had nearly 12 movies and i had to delete it without any choice since i was having important things in other drives. Then i took backup files then installed new OS
in c drive since i was not suppose to format it.

CAUTION:DONT EVER TRY TO FORMAT C DRIVE AS YOU DO OTHER DRIVES.

As i didn’t want 2 OS in my system i formated G drive.Atlast my system is secure with one OS. I have installed eZantivirus. Which performs good till now.

P.S. I’m not trying to disgrace any anti-virus. They work great, whatsoever.

This is another way you can increase your internet speed. Again you cannot get more speed than what your ISP provides but you get get what you are aught to. I hope most of them would know this, still im saying for those who dosen’t know this. It seems that Windows XP reserves 20% of the available bandwidth (i.e. 20% of your Internet available speed) to itself and that is one of the reasons that you will never reach your full download speed under this operating system. All you have to do is configure small setting.

1. Start->run-> type GPEDIT.MSC
2. Group policy window appears now. In the left pan, there will be a list of tree option, click Administrative template-> Network-> QOS Packet scheduler. The window must look like follow.
3. After double clicking QOS packet scheduler, Right click on ”Limit resevable bandwidth” and select properties. Now the following window appears.
4. Click the Enable Radio button and reset bandwidhth limit from 20% to 0%C
5. Click Ok.

Thats it you are done. Enjoy the speed which you aught to get. Jusy take your time to do this. This will help you as it helped me. If you people have any other way of speeding up the internet just post it hear. Let all know how to speed up computer.

As development and support ended for Netscape browsers on March 1st, users will be presented with a chance to move over to Flock with an update to be released soon. I wonder why netscape has stopped its development and support while it has lot of users. I’m disappointed about it because i felt it had a good user interface and theme. No matter now mozilla has come up with an new add-on , that is a theme for mozilla firefox to look like netscape navigator. This is just a compliment for netscape users. I was looking for  some other browser other than firefox and opera. Meanwhile i found Sea monkey, Apple’s safari, Flock,. I would say flock is best of all and now I’ve migrated to flock which has a lot more features than opera, firefox. Hope flock will updated its browser and adds more features into it.

Recently i was thinking how to increse my download speed. Because i have 256 kb airtel connection and i felt im not geting the most out of my speed.
Well, il tell you how to get the most out of your internet. This is the one which i tried and it worked too. obviously, you cant literally get more speed, than what ISP gives. But what you can you do is get the highest that you are aught to. Internet involves in two main things

• Requesting page
• Downloading pages

Solution for requesting pages is set up your own DNS server, which is kinda complicated. Ping your remote dns server constantly to request pages faster, true, might work, but if caught (and will be because the DNS server will be slowing down) youll be in big trouble.[what i read]. Downloading pages/general downloding (what really slows down your internet), two main things that slow down your internet.

• Unessessary programs are accessing the net.
• Unnessary port are open.
• Browser choice.
• Network card isn’t optimized for high speed internet.

The first three can be solved with the use of a strong free Firewall such as zone alarm, and by the use of a secure browser such as Firefox and Opera. I wish not to use IE anymore while i have other better ones. Most ISP assume that you are using a new pc so, they dont bother to optimize your network card. So, download TCP Optimizer and tweak your network card to get more internet bandwidth. This helped me a lot.
Ill tell you how to optimize your network card.
1)First do a speed test, choose any server. I chose newyork city.
2)Download TCP optimizer.
3)Open it, and drag the slider to slightly more than what you should be getting, i dont think you want to drag the slider all the way to the right simply because, the network card will set asside more resources than needed, slowing down your internet.
4)Once your limit has been set, Click on modify all network adapters. (i have 2 network adapters *Hamachi and *realteck) make sure you have selected your ethernet card. click on optimal settings radio button and click on apply changes, and it will pop up asking you to reboot, do the reboot
5)Try the speed test once again.
IF your network card has just been optimized you well see a jump in your internet speed! It worked for me, my download speed according to the speedtest.com has increased from 32kb/s to 35kb/sec. May be it wil work more for me. Friends dont nag me if it fails or dont work. Im posting because i did it and it worked for me. Try it and lemme know the feeds.
