Quick.tv, new online video platform

   Posted by: Hari   in General

This month Joost has officially given up in his race against YouTube or Hulu to become a giant of online video. Crowded area if it is with in addition to those listed above, DailyMotion number 2 in Europe, Brightcove, the reference platform for many professional or Ooyala, or Magnify WorldTV who also offer solutions to mount a mini TV channel in ligne.Et I forget Bonee probably a dozen others ..

Here is a newcomer who has the courage Quick.tv

They just launched a new product in Beta that allows video creators to customize their TV channels to insert polls and advertising more functionality developed enough statistics. The site is also compatible with all video formats and HD.

Quick.tv English is a startup funded to the tune of £ 1.2 million, the company is based in Newcastle and London.

Quick.Tv is quite attractive, but they want a lot of courage in an area where competition is fierce and important. The boom in online video has taken place yet but soon to be at the economic level. Economic models free, with advertising, have a hard time proving themselves. While YouTube or DailyMotion does not cover the same type of clientele that Brightcove, for example, but only the model Freemium seem to start to prove himself in this field, as evidenced by income Brightcove. Quick.Tv moreover chose to start only by a paid model. No free version; subscriptions begin at $ 120 per month. A site that seems to be focused companies and media groups, not the general public.

250 million users on Facebook

   Posted by: Hari   in General

Three months after having passed the 200 million members, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO, announced yesterday that the social network now had 250 million users. In January the account was 150 million.

According to Comscore, Facebook had 316 million visitors in May, but all would not necessarily account.

The pace of growth of facebook is pretty scary, growing from 50 million users in three months is simply amazing. How long before it reache

Commemorations bloom across the web and in the media 40 years ago the man posed a first step on the moon, yes, yes, the famous giant leap for mankind. Until the next mission joint European-American, we can revisit the past through several web sites which tell of the adventures of space Apollo crews.

It was discovered Wechoosethemoon an American site, very spectacular, but I chose to present this morning at the Conquest of the Moon, a web documentary directed by French studio Multimedia RFI and France 24. A superb achievement which combines graphics, photos and video. All Apollo missions from 1969 to 1972. Beautiful, simple and educational.

Twitter Search Is Coming To Google

   Posted by: Hari   in General

Mere hours after today’s announcement that Twitter would now be integrated with Microsoft’s Bing search engine, Google has annouced that it too will include Twittter updates in its own search results. Marissa Mayer, Google VP of Search Products and User Experience, writes in a company blog post. Given this new type of information and its value to search, we are very excited to announce that we have reached an agreement with Twitter to include their updates in our search results. We believe that our search results and user experience will greatly benefit from the inclusion of this up-to-the-minute data, and we look forward to having a product that showcases how tweets can make search better in the coming months. That way, the next time you search for something that can be aided by a real-time observation, say, snow conditions at your favorite ski resort, you’ll find tweets from other users who are there and sharing the latest and greatest information.

It’s worth noting that while Bing’s Twitter search is live today, it sounds like Google will be working Twitter’s data into its search results over the next few months. The next question is whether or not Google will get access to Facebook’s stream of real-time updates (Microsoft announced deals with both Twitter and Facebook at today’s Web 2.0 Summit). Neither of Microsoft’s deals with Twitter and Facebook are exclusive, which leaves the door open for Google to pair up with Facebook as well. But Google and Facebook have butted heads in the past. And Microsoft has a long history with Facebook: the companysupplements Facebook’s search with Bing results, and it controls a small stake in the company after investing$240 million at a sky-high $15 billion valuation back in late 2007.

Google Launching Music Service

   Posted by: Hari   in General

Google is about to launch a music service a we heard it from multiple sources. To secure the content for the launch the service of the major music labels, Google has spent last several weeks. One of the sources has referred the new service as Google Audio. We’re still gathering details, but our understanding is the service will be very different to the Google China music download service that theylaunched in 2008. That service, which is only available in China, allows users to search for music and download it for free. This new service will be available for at least U.S. users, our sources confirm, although it isn’t clear if it’s a download or streaming service, or both. Google already has a decent (if little used) music search engine that can be accessed by simply typing “music:” before a query (example). But songs are not available for streaming or download from those searches.

truTV ,the effect is actual

Posted by: Hari   in General, Random

I love watching television shows and I’m a television buff! As a matter of fact I probably watch a little too much television. I have a confession to make though….I am such a wimp! I can’t handle a lot of reality shows. When they are off in the woods and eat really disgusting things I will seriously vomit or get dry heaves. A good friend of ours thinks those types of shows are hilarious and have tried too many times to get me to watch. He loves to see my reaction.
To be honest, his reaction is just as amusing. He gets loud and starts laughing and talking to the TV. He chews his nails and begins twirling his hair in anticipation of what will come next. Tonight I watched some truTV or at least I tried. I told you I am such a wimp. I did watch a great storm episode. However I couldn’t hack the episode where the magician accidentally stabs himself. OUCH! Seriously, I was in pain just knowing what was coming.
Are you a wimp like me or do you get a rush out of watching some of the wildest real videos. There are so many categories you are sure to find plenty to pique your interest. Be sure to proceed with caution, truTV effect may just be more than you can handle.
truTV Whack is something which I love to watch as it illicits the true reactin within me. And I feel that is the only time I forget about the environment I am in.

Spotify, a free and increasingly popular music streaming service available on the other side of the pond (and currently by invite only in the US), has yet to launch an official Android Market app.

But not to worry. A group of Spotify fans have developed Droidify, an unofficial Spotify client for Android. The free app:

lets you search, browse, manage playlists and listen to the millions of songs available from Spotify on your phone. You can use it with both 3G and Wi-Fi.

Primarily intended to tide over Android-totin Spotify users until an official app is released, Droidify doesn’t currently offer any offline functionality while the official app apparently will. But hey, its free and its available now.

Update: Aaaaand it’s gone. Turns out Droidify wasn’t allowed under the agreement terms that Spotify had set up with music labels. Spotify contacted Droidify’s dev and asked nicely, and the dev took it down. Oh well.

Lunch.com Launches Micro Reviews

   Posted by: Hari   in General

Lunch, a review site that made its debut earlier this year, is launching a new feature it calls micro reviews — highly condensed reviews on just about anything, with a maximum length of 140 characters. You’ll be able to see a stream of incoming reviews on the site’s homepage, and you can also syndicate the microreviews you write to Twitter and Facebook.

Of course, review sites aren’t anything new. Neither are so-called ‘micro reviews’ — we’ve seen a number of sites that invite users to submit condensed reviews rather than the lengthier entries you’ll find on sites like Yelp. But there are a few things that make Lunch a little bit different, not the least of which is CEO J.R. Johnson’s ultimate goal with the site: to make the world a better place by changing the way people think about each other.

A lofty goal to be sure, and one that’s going to be extremely difficult. So how does Lunch plan to do it?

Johnson explains that review sites in general tend to change the way people think about what they’re doing — a phenomenon he watched unfold in the travel industry (he founded VirtualTourist in 1999, which sold to Expedia last year). Johnson says that during his time at VirtualTourist, he observed that people who consumed content on the site tended to be more analytical during their own travels, because they had the intent of sharing their thoughts with other members of the site once they got back home. He hopes that Lunch’s new microreviews will have the same effect, encouraging people to more analytically observe the world around them as they look for things to relay back to their peers on Lunch.

He says this effect could also be magnified because of the way Lunch’s recommendation engine (called a “Similarity Network”) works. Based on reviews you’ve submitted and other actions on the site, Lunch tries to pair you up with other members that it thinks are most similar to you — the idea being you’d rather read a review from one or two very similar people than dozens of reviews from users you know nothing about. Johnson’s theory is that if you’re going to be sharing your reviews with a highly relevant audience, you’re going to be even more analytical in your daily life.

Johnson says that the big picture here is to help people understand eachother better, allowing them to use the Similarity Network to find some common ground where they wouldn’t otherwise and encouraging people to approach life with a more critical perspective. And because the site deals with pretty much any topic, running the gamut from ice cream reviews to politics, there’s a lot of things for people to potentially connect on. Micro reviews are a start — a “critical thinking onramp” — and more robust features in the future will continue the trend.

This all sounds nice in theory, but Johnson’s goals are going to be really hard to see through. For one, the site is still quite small, and there are countless other review sites out there, including both generalized sites like Lunch and niche sites. Making the world a better place is a great long-term goal, but in the short term, Lunch is going to need to find a way to drive people to use the site by offering something its competitors don’t. And even if Lunch had an exceptionally large userbase, I have a hard time believing the service would be able to put much of a dent in the prejudices that run throughout the world.
