Google is testing a system that competes with Wikipedia. There are two key differences in Google’s version. One is that authors of entries are identified. Second is that Google encourages competition among authors and will rank different pages about the same topic using some algorithm that it has developed. Another difference is that authors can put ads on their entries (surprise …!).
The second of these two innovations is the most interesting to me. The problem with Wikipedia is that it’s hard to judge the quality of entries unless you’re an expert on the subject, but if you’re already an expert, you probably don’t need to read about it on Wikipedia. To maintain high quality, Wikipedia depends on self-moderation by its authors — if someone writes some nonsense, another author is supposed to see that and correct it. Google, on the other hand, it not an expert about everything (yet …) but it is very good at ranking things. So instead of relying on a disorganised and decentralised process to rank results, Google generates a ranking using a centralised algorithm. Since most people already know that Google is good at ranking web search results, it can leverage this credibility to get people to trust its rankings of other things.
To me, it still seems to be an open question as to which process — centralised or decentralised — is better at sorting the good from the bad. For a decentralised system to work, it depends on the incentives of the individuals involved being aligned in the right way. This is hard to do, as websites like Digg have discovered. The ‘crowds’ are often quite good at sorting the good from the bad, but there are opportunities for gaming and other effects that let some bads get mixed up with the goods. A centralised process, on the other hand, perhaps lacks the flexibility to respond to changes, and is also prone to gaming once people figure out how the algorithm works, but may be easier to implement compared to setting up the right incentives for everyone.
In any case, it’s going to be a very interesting experiment to see which model performs better. The only problem is that Wikipedia already has a massive head-start, and I don’t know if authors of Wikipedia pages will want to switch to Google, even if they can earn ad revenues. On the other hand, since Wikipedia content is Creative Commons licensed, switching is more or less just a matter of copy and paste …

I was searching a lot on how google caches the blog that to in very short period. Even i dedicated one of the blog for blog optimization and blog improvement. It is all simple, once you have your blog link in page which is already indexed/cached, then your blog is cached via that link. More number of links you have on cached page there is more chance for getting indexed quickly. I think our fellow blogger doesn’t really need to worry because all our blog get cached and indexed quickly but not as much fast as my Anything blog. It get cache as soon as i post it. See i previously saw my blog cached in 1 min ago in Google search and i forgot to get a screen shot but here is the one which i took latest.
This post is about the Princess Juliana International Airport. It is the second busiest airport in the Eastern Caribbean. The airport is famous for its short landing strip — only 2,180 metres/7,152 ft. I recently saw this video of Plane landing in this airport, its really awesome to watch. I wonder how the passengers, pilot and the visitors in that beach feels every time when a plane landing. Just almost 10-30 m down from the road and the sea it goes. So far no major aviation incidents have een recorded. Watch this video and you will know about it.
For alexa ranking, it might be easier if the site has a counter like what I have for this blog. But, if they do not, you might have trouble to find them. So, here is the add-on that you can use to detect the alexa ranking and page rank at the same time: download add on here. Don’t worry because it is free. This extension will only work with Firefox browser. If you are not using one, you can download it for free by using the link on the side bar (find the button ‘Get Firefox with Google toolbar’).
This is another way you can increase your internet speed. Again you cannot get more speed than what your ISP provides but you get get what you are aught to. I hope most of them would know this, still im saying for those who dosen’t know this. It seems that Windows XP reserves 20% of the available bandwidth (i.e. 20% of your Internet available speed) to itself and that is one of the reasons that you will never reach your full download speed under this operating system. All you have to do is configure small setting.
Start->run-> type GPEDIT.MSC
Group policy window appears now. In the left pan, there will be a list of tree option, click Administrative template-> Network-> QOS Packet scheduler. The window must look like follow.
After double clicking QOS packet scheduler, Right click on ”Limit resevable bandwidth” and select properties. Now the following window appears.
Click the Enable Radio button and reset bandwidhth limit from 20% to 0%C
Click Ok.
Thats it you are done. Enjoy the speed which you aught to get. Jusy take your time to do this. This will help you as it helped me. If you people have any other way of speeding up the internet just post it hear. Let all know how to speed up computer.
As development and support ended for Netscape browsers on March 1st, users will be presented with a chance to move over to Flock with an update to be released soon. I wonder why netscape has stopped its development and support while it has lot of users. I’m disappointed about it because i felt it had a good user interface and theme. No matter now mozilla has come up with an new add-on , that is a theme for mozilla firefox to look like netscape navigator. This is just a compliment for netscape users. I was looking for some other browser other than firefox and opera. Meanwhile i found Sea monkey, Apple’s safari, Flock,. I would say flock is best of all and now I’ve migrated to flock which has a lot more features than opera, firefox. Hope flock will updated its browser and adds more features into it.
Recently i was thinking how to increse my download speed. Because i have 256 kb airtel connection and i felt im not geting the most out of my speed.
Well, il tell you how to get the most out of your internet. This is the one which i tried and it worked too. obviously, you cant literally get more speed, than what ISP gives. But what you can you do is get the highest that you are aught to. Internet involves in two main things
Requesting page
Downloading pages
Solution for requesting pages is set up your own DNS server, which is kinda complicated. Ping your remote dns server constantly to request pages faster, true, might work, but if caught (and will be because the DNS server will be slowing down) youll be in big trouble.[what i read]. Downloading pages/general downloding (what really slows down your internet), two main things that slow down your internet.
Unessessary programs are accessing the net.
Unnessary port are open.
Browser choice.
Network card isn’t optimized for high speed internet.
The first three can be solved with the use of a strong free Firewall such as zone alarm, and by the use of a secure browser such as Firefox and Opera. I wish not to use IE anymore while i have other better ones. Most ISP assume that you are using a new pc so, they dont bother to optimize your network card. So, download TCP Optimizer and tweak your network card to get more internet bandwidth. This helped me a lot.
Ill tell you how to optimize your network card.
1)First do a speed test, choose any server. I chose newyork city.
2)Download TCP optimizer.
3)Open it, and drag the slider to slightly more than what you should be getting, i dont think you want to drag the slider all the way to the right simply because, the network card will set asside more resources than needed, slowing down your internet.
4)Once your limit has been set, Click on modify all network adapters. (i have 2 network adapters *Hamachi and *realteck) make sure you have selected your ethernet card. click on optimal settings radio button and click on apply changes, and it will pop up asking you to reboot, do the reboot
5)Try the speed test once again.
IF your network card has just been optimized you well see a jump in your internet speed! It worked for me, my download speed according to the speedtest.com has increased from 32kb/s to 35kb/sec. May be it wil work more for me. Friends dont nag me if it fails or dont work. Im posting because i did it and it worked for me. Try it and lemme know the feeds.
